Assalaamu'alaykum,
Your thoughts play a significant role in shaping your life experiences.
Your thoughts can bend and travel in all sorts of directions, a bit like a contortionist can twist different parts of their body, defying the ordinary bounds of reality.
Many of my clients, who are highly accomplished individuals, often describe their minds as filled with…
“This won’t work out.”
“It’s not good enough.”
“I said this, and now they must think that.”
“They don’t like me.”
“I’m not capable of this.”
Human beings tend to default to behaviours such as mind-reading, making presumptions, negative anticipation, fear, rumination, and allowing their thoughts to wander in a negative direction.
These tendencies directly influence their experience of the present moment.
And let’s not forget that Shaytan (satan) is on 24-hour watch, waiting for these moments to rush in and add fuel to the fire.
With these thoughts left unattended, we can feel constricted, weaker, annoyed and our perception of ourselves and others can plummet.
Every single person can and will experience these moments of weakness; it's part of our human design and part of our test.
But I always remind my clients that Allah ’azza wajal has placed within us the capacity to transcend these moments…
There's a deep soulful part within each of us, a place that connects us to our higher consciousness. It links us to what is most pure and good.
It elevates our thinking, freeing us from the shackles of these runaway thoughts and guides us towards what is more virtuous and true.
A few days ago, I had one such moment with a client, where she was expressing her runaway thoughts and consequently was feeling stressed and constricted, as if caged, yet yearning to be free.
After spending a few moments helping her bring a more intense inner focus to her higher wisdom, shining a light on her purest honest thoughts and drawing strength from her faith…
She felt an immediate shift.
Her mind could relax, allowing the wisdom of her heart to guide her.
She no longer felt caged, rather she felt she was soaring high and free.
After the session, she captured her thoughts and feelings.
What resulted was a beautiful reflection of the inner freedom she could now connect with.
With her permission, I’m sharing her words with you as they touched my soul, and I’m sure they will touch yours too.
They paint a picture of pure serenity, Alhamdulilah.
